Taking care of Prisma's most important audience: their team

Greenville Health System and Palmetto Health merged in 2017 to form the largest private, non-profit healthcare system in South Carolina, Prisma Health, serving 1.2 million patients. Although they were under one umbrella, they had separate intranets which were dated and lacking in functionality. When a global pandemic changed the face of healthcare, having one source of internal information was more critical than ever.

Making critical connections

Prisma understood that their own staff of nearly 30,000 healthcare professionals across South Carolina was as important an audience as their patients. The goal of the intranet is to “inform, inspire, and uplift,” this team, especially in the face of a pandemic. Together, we engaged in deep audience research, understanding all the user groups and what was important to each of them—content, access, news, and more.

A flexible solution, custom-built for efficiency

Because Prisma had used Kentico in the past, and was simultaneously building a refreshed external site on Kentico Xperience, they decided to use it as the platform for the intranet as well. This not only gave them the flexibility they desired in how the new intranet was built, but it provides many efficiencies in content management for their internal team, as well. This was all executed as part of their strategic digital roadmap.

Reason One integrated the intranet using Prisma’s existing login authentication tool, PingFederate. This required investigation into the third party tool, collaboration with Prisma’s IT department, and additional testing. Prisma wished for some content to be gated, accessible only by certain departments, which required an additional level of authentication.

Informing, inspiring, and uplifting the Prisma team

The outcome, Prisma’s newly-launched intranet called “Connect,” has been very well received by the organization. Rather than a stale, confusing repository of documents and out-of-date information, they now have a vibrant, easy-to-use intranet that is accessible both on-site and off-site. Prisma team members can truly connect, even if they are in different cities or campuses.

Since launch, the intranet has achieved:

  • 110% increase in average session duration

  • 129% increase in sessions per user
